Hunting vs. Animal Rights

PeTA Wants "Mountain Men and the History of the Old West" Banned from Elementary School

The hunt, an experience every boy should be able to experience is under fire from P.E.T.A. as well as several other animal rights groups. It is being called murder, or legalized cruelty to animals. I do not agree with this viewpoint at all. Hunting is a basic survival trait for mankind. We have been hunting since we were cavemen. It is unatural to not hunt. While I agree that modern life makes it less needed than in previous times, there is still a place for hunting in these times.

Wildlife if left unchecked would soon overrun once wild areas that are being developed into residential areas. Maybe P.E.T.A. people feel it would be more humane for deer to starve to death or get smacked by one of their cars. I don't think so.

With modern technologies most states departments of natural resources have a fairly good idea of animal populations and are able to project future expansion. With these figures they can issue a number of permits and keep animals from overpopulating and starving themselves out. Or from causing problems by being where they shouldn't be such as roads or somebodies backyard.

All boys over the age of 12 should be allowed to participate in at least one hunt to feel what their ancestors felt when harvesting natures bounty.

When taught proper hunting ethics these children will not become raving slaughtering lunatics but rather will gain a greater understanding of how nature works and have a greater affinity with it.
